Our Adoption Fees
The adoption fee is designed to offset some of the expenses we incur in caring for each animal.
All animals come fixed, 3 sets of shots, flea treated, wormed, dogs heart worm tested, microchipped.
Dogs - $200
Dogs That Have Been In Shelter Longer Than 90 Days Are Half Off
Puppies - $250 (6 months and younger)
3 FREE Months of Routine Medical Care at Happy Tails Wellness Clinic.
Senior Dogs 7 Plus $75.00
Adult Pits & Adult Large Breed Hounds $75.00
Cats - $25 (seniors), $65 (adult cats)
Kittens - $80 (kittens 6 months and under)

Pre-adoption Services
Feline leukemia testing (cats)

Adoption fees are non-refundable. They provide needed income to care for the pets that come to us.
Return Policy
Happy Tails strives to find permanent homes for its animals by matching the right pet with the right family at the time of adoption. We understand, however, that there are certain circumstances in which a pet may not work out. If at any time an adopter can no longer keep an adopted pet, the animal is to be returned to Happy Tails.
Warranties
Happy Tails makes no representation, warranty, or guarantee on the health, behavior, age, or temperament of any animal. Where a pet's owner is known, we do ask about the history and behavior of the animal; however, Happy Tails makes no representation, guarantee or warranty.
How to Adopt
You can view our adoptable pets on the Adoptable Pets page, on Petfinder.com, on AdoptAPet.com, our Facebook page, or by coming to the shelter. We also have special adoption events at PetSmart in Sterling and other locations.
All pet adoptions require a completed adoption application. Our office staff and volunteers act as matchmakers to find animals good homes. Your responses on the adoption application help them make a good match. You can also take our Meet Your Match survey (see below), which matches adopters with pets.
Adopters must be 21 years of age and live within 200 miles of our shelter.

Our shelter staff will review your application and notify you. The application requests various references. You can help the review process by letting those you name know that you have an application in place with Happy Tails and that we will be contacting them. Better yet--ask them to contact us!
